Roof Cable Systems:
While a collective fall prevention system such as roof guardrail is the safer and preferred option, sometimes a cable system is the only feasible option. When this is the case, we always try and design a "fall prevention cable system" over a "fall arrest" system. The obvious reason for this is that the fall prevention system stops the person from falling, thus eliminating the need for a rescue plan.
A fall arrest system allows the user to fall over the edge. As a result, a rescue plan needs to be in place as even though the victim doesn't hit the ground, they are still in a dangerous position and could still have suffered injuries as a result of their fall. However it is not always possible to install a fall prevention system, as there mightn't be sufficient room to keep the cable far enough back from the edge of the building. Whatever the circumstances, we always weigh up the options and go with the safest possible outcome.
