A proper slope is essential

Generally, shallower slopes are easier to access. Depending on where the ramp is installed, the maximum slope varies. The Disability Act requires a slope of 1:12 (~5 degrees) for public access.

You must provide the proper clearance for navigation

Navigation clearance is required

UK & Ireland generally consider 36 inches to be the ramp width. Additionally, this applies to landings that are free of door swing paths.

You must provide a flat landing for long distances and changes in direction

Landings over long distances and turning must be flat

Ramps must have flat landings when they change direction. Additionally, for a 1:15 slope, a landing must be provided every 15 feet.

Access Ramp Handrails

The ramp must have proper grab rails and guardrails.

Ensure smooth, continuous grabrails. Where required, guardrails should be at least 42 inches high.
